About us
A Derby firm that answers its own phone
Kelmer started in 2009 with one van and a stock of springs. 17 years on there are 6 vans, a trade unit full of parts, and the same idea: turn up the same day, with the part, at the price we said.
How we work
-
Our own engineers
Every engineer is employed by us, trained on springs and openers in our own unit, and carries the same parts list. Nobody is subcontracted.
-
The van is the workshop
Each van carries springs in the common UK sizes, cables, drums, rollers, hinges and opener parts. That is why nine jobs in ten finish on the first visit.
-
The honest answer first
If a £165 repair will give your door another ten years, we say so, even when you rang about a new door.
-
Tidy, then tested
We sweep up, take the old parts away and do not leave until the door holds at half height and reverses off a block of wood.
What a visit looks like
The engineer rings when they are twenty minutes away. At the door they look at the springs, the cables and the tracks before saying anything, then tell you what has failed, why, and the fixed price.
Most repairs take an hour or two. Before we pack up we release the opener and lift the door by hand to half height: a balanced door stays where you let go. Then we put a block of wood under it and close it to check it reverses.
You get a written note of what we did, what we noticed, and anything that will want attention in the next year.

“The opener had been clicking for a week. The engineer found a worn gear, fitted it on the spot and showed me the old one. Cheaper than the new motor I had been quoted elsewhere.”
