Most doors we look at are worth repairing. But a door that has needed three repairs in two years, has rusted through at the bottom panel, or whose parts are no longer made is costing more to keep than to replace.

Which kind of door

Sectional doors lift straight up and run back under the ceiling, so you can park right up to them. They are the warmest and most secure, and the one most people choose. From £1,495 fitted for a single.

Roller doors coil into a box above the opening. They suit garages where the ceiling is full of storage or a beam. Motorised as standard, from £1,350.

Up-and-over doors are a single steel leaf that swings out and up. The simplest and cheapest, from £895.

Side-hinged doors open like a pair of gates. Good for a workshop you walk in and out of, from £1,250.

How it works

We survey and measure for free, usually within the week. You choose the style, colour, insulation and whether you want an opener, and get a fixed price in writing. The door is made to measure (one to five weeks, depending on the style) and fitted in a day by two of our own engineers, who take the old door away.

You can price a door now with the configurator on the new doors page; the survey confirms it.

“Spring went at seven in the morning with the car inside. I rang at eight, they were here by eleven, and I was driving to work at half twelve. The price on the phone was the price on the invoice.”

“One side of the door had dropped about a foot and I was sure it needed replacing. Kelmer put two new cables on, levelled it, and told me straight that the door has another ten years in it.”

    A. P., Mickleover

  • Door
    Single sectional
    Fault
    Opener clicking, door still
    Call to fixed

“The opener had been clicking for a week. The engineer found a worn gear, fitted it on the spot and showed me the old one. Cheaper than the new motor I had been quoted elsewhere.”
